Emergence of Technologically Enhanced Polarizer Films is a Major Driving Force for Polarizer Film Market Growth

A polarizer film is an optical filter that allows light waves of a mixed or undefined polarization to pass through and blocks those of other polarizations. Polarizer films are extensively used in various optical techniques and instruments. The most commonly known polarizers are circular polarizers and linear polarizers. Polarizing films find widespread application in the fields of LCD (liquid crystal display) technology and photography. Apart from light waves, polarizer films can be made for other different types of electromagnetic waves, such as radio wavesX-rays, and microwaves. A polarizer film is generally made up of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which provides the film with unique polarization characteristics, helping it filter light beams with a specific oscillation direction. Polarizer films are widely utilized in LCD panels, TVs, computers, cell phones, optical filters, sunglasses, contact lenses, etc.

Polarizer films are optimally used in various areas, including microscopy, imaging, and display. They are known to enhance image quality and protect against harmful UV rays. Moreover, they eliminate the effects of reflections on surfaces like glass, metal, and plastic. Their mechanical strength can be enhanced by laminating their surfaces using backing materials like a TAC film or any other protective film. The demand for polarizer films has considerably risen worldwide. Therefore, the surging demand for these films can be attributed to a plethora of factors, such as the burgeoning application of these films in LCD displays, cell phones, etc., exponentially growing demand for televisions and smartphones, increasing demand for larger display panels of smartphones and tablets, surging penetration of high-visibility and high-definition quantum dot (QD)-LED displays, and the emergence of organic light-emitting diode (OLED) displays for gadgets. Furthermore, rising eye disorders, increasing environmental concerns over the hazards caused by electronic product disposal, enforcement of stringent government norms regarding product packaging, magnifying demand for reflective polarizing films, technological advancements, and increasing R&D activities are among the other vital factors propelling the growth of the global polarizer film market.

Some of the leading players in this market include

Nitto Denko Corporation,Sumitomo, SUNNYPOL, LG Chem, Samsung SDI, BenQ, Optimax, CMMT, Sanritz, Polatechno, SAPO, and Dongxu, among others. The global polarizer film market is concentrated in the Asia Pacific region, as most of the leading manufacturers of polarizer films are based in countries like Japan, China, and Korea. Nitto is one of the top players in this industry. In July 2020, the Japan-based company developed an ‘Ultra-thin Glass with Polarizing Film’ in collaboration with Nippon Electric Glass Co. Ltd. The product incorporates Nippon’s ultra-thin glass G-Leaf and Nitto’s high-performance polymer films.
